two ingredient bagels

I’m always excited and happy to share Weight Watchers recipes. Of all the recipes on this blog, they are the recipes that I make over and over again. My Weight Watchers chili is a good example of one of these recipes!

My favorite “challenge” is coming up with recipes that use zero point foods. If you’re on the Freestyle program, you know exactly what I’m talking about. There are over 200 foods that have no points, and one of them is in this recipe (you’ll see soon!).

The recipe in the spotlight today is two ingredient bagels.

If you’re part of any Weight Watchers communities online or if you’ve gone to meetings, you might have heard whisperings about these bagels. What are they? What are the two ingredients? Are they disgusting? Delicious? How do I make them?

weight watchers bagel recipe

I’m here to teach you how to make these little dough-y wheels of delight and then answer any questions you have! Because the truth is, this homemade bagel recipe pretty amazing.

You can eat these for breakfast as bagels, form into small sandwich rounds, make a large or several individual pizza crusts, or even use the dough to make pigs in a blanket.

What do two ingredient bagels taste like?

I find that this recipe tastes a little bit like dense white bread with a hint of sourdough (thanks to the Greek yogurt). Here’s what I love about this Weight Watchers dough: it’s the perfect vehicle for other “stuff.”

Other stuff like butter, cream cheese, shredded cheese, tomato sauce, and more.

Of course those things are additional points, but these bagels are so dense, filling, and low in points that they are better than a lot of other options as a base. Having said that, I don’t mind eating them plain. I find them to be so good and a perfect substitute for other calorie and point dense breads.

Self Rising Flour vs. Regular Flour

The recipe calls for self rising flour, but to be honest you can make your own self rising flour. Just combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to make the shelf rising flour.

I’m going to be honest though – I don’t find that these WW bagels taste as good if I don’t use self rising flour. I always use Gold Medal self rising flour, and it is the best tasting to me. I absolutely taste a difference; maybe you won’t. I’d love to know in the comments if you are like me when it comes to flour taste!

Serves Four or Six

Ingredients

  • 1 cup self-rising flour (you can sub with gluten free flour)
  • 1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt (I recommend something with a thicker consistency like Fage)
  • Toppings like sesame seeds, poppy seeds, cinnamon, parmesan

My top tip for this recipe – these are actually delicious in the air fryer! The air fryer gives them a crispier outer shell just like a “real” bagel.

WW Weight Watchers Zero Point Foods

I come from a Weight Watchers family! My mom has been in Weight Watchers at various points over the course of my lifetime, most recently losing 90 pounds. This was a few years ago, and she has been able to maintain the weight (she’s still in WW).

I’ve done WW with her before, and at the end of last year I came back into the program during a time of HUGE changes! On December 3rd, 2017, Weight Watchers introduced the Freestyle™ Program.

This isn’t the first time they’ve revamped the program, which they do over the course of time as they learn more about nutrition and the way people lose weight.

A lot of people don’t like new program releases, but I actually love them – because I get to benefit from all of the WW research on nutrition. I love shortcuts!

I also want to eat the foods that make me feel the best.

So last year I jumped on board the Freestyle bandwagon. I even made a zero point chili recipe that I ate all last year (and I know you love it too!). I did well on the program last winter and lost 10 pounds.

This year I want to try to lose 10 pounds again (a few additional I didn’t lose, as well as a few that crept up on me this holiday season! :0)

What fruits and vegetables are free on Weight Watchers?

MOST fresh fruits and vegetables have ZERO points on Freestyle. You’ll notice that your daily allowance of points on Freestyle is smaller than it was on SmartPoints.

There’s a reason for this. It’s unspoken encouragement to eat more fruits and veggies!

Important Notes for Zero Point Fruits and Veggies

  • Fruit should be packed without any added sugar – fruits in their own juice are fine
  • Beans and vegetables should be packed without any added oil or sugar
  • The following fruits and veggies still have points: Avocados, Cassava/Yuca, Olives, Parsnips, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Yams, Vegetable Flours and Pastas
  • Smoothies and dried fruits are NOT zero points. Learn more here.

Tips for Working the Freestyle Program

If you’re just starting the Freestyle Program, and Weight Watchers zero point foods are new to you, you might need some tips. I know I did when I first started! Here are my top tips:

  1. Don’t overdo it. Just because some foods are now zero points doesn’t mean you should go nuts! Go nuts coming up with new ways to incorporate those foods, but don’t just eat a dozen apples because you can. The goal is moderation and diversity in your diet.
  2. Use Weight Watchers zero point foods as a foundation. I like to say to myself, “let’s do something with green beans!” and then research/come up with a delicious way to use them. Veggies (and other healthy foods) don’t have to be gross.
  3. Give yourself time. It takes awhile to learn anything new. Be patient and understanding with yourself. It WILL work. Just give yourself the time.
  4. Use the recipe builder for Freestyle recipes as opposed to just entering caloric information. When you just enter the calories, the WW app/online tool doesn’t know that some of the foods you incorporated have no points. You MUST use the builder and tell WW what’s in the recipe for a correct calculation.

Are you ready to get the complete list? Here it is.

ZERO Points Weight Watchers Chili Recipe

I’m so excited to share this Weight Watchers chili recipe. When I say that we eat this chili every single day, I’m not exaggerating. I like Weight Watchers dinner recipes not just because they are low calorie, but they make me feel full when I usually get hungry at night. This is one of those chilis that will leave you feeling satisfied!

We make this turkey chili in our pressure cooker and then eat out of the container for lunch or dinner – and then we repeat the process. It’s a great one for meal prep because it stores well and lasts all week. I will put this up against any classic chili recipe!

Why? Because it’s easy to make, quick (though you can make it in a slow cooker), and inexpensive. AND of course, because it has ZERO Weight Watchers Freestyle Points (get the full list of zero point foods here).

That means if I have this turkey chili for a meal with a steamed veggie or fruit side, I’ve got a zero point meal. Low calorie, low fat. Boom!

WW Chili Recipe

I joined Weight Watchers several months ago before switch to the Freestyle program. I had just gotten used to the SmartPoints and was hesitant about Freestyle at first, but now I’ve embraced it and I love that the points roll over and also that I get some “freebie” foods.

And that’s where this Weight Watchers chili recipe comes into play! I’ve been working on this recipe for a while, testing different ingredients until I found something I liked.

Note: the meat must be 99% fat free to be ZERO points. I rotate between chicken and turkey (depending on what I’m craving), but it’s always 99% fat free. If you decide to do a different meat, you’ll need to add that to your recipe and recalculate the points!

Points By Program

If you aren’t on the Freestyle program, here’s a quick guide to the WW points for this particular recipe. As I said, the program I am on is Freestyle, so that’s the point value I use.

  • Freestyle – 0 points
  • MyWW
    • Blue Plan (same as Freestyle) – 0 points
    • Green Plan – 7 points
  • Old Points – 5 points
  • SmartPoints – 7 points

Ingredients and Garnish

While this recipe is great as-is, I also like to add any veggies from the kitchen that I need to use up. I’ve added, at various times: sweet potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, corn, zucchini, and more. If the veggies have points, you’ll have to add those, but so many don’t.

Keep in mind that if you add anything to what is already here, you might need to add some chicken broth or beef broth to keep the consistency right. This is a great recipe for making “your own” – and it’s nearly impossible to mess up.

Once this turkey chili is made, don’t forget to add garnishments (which may add to the points value). Depending on the day, I might add tortilla chips, chives, reduced fat cheese, or light sour cream.

This WW chili recipe is easy and SO DELICIOUS even just as is, but you have a lot of options. You’re going to love this recipe and want to include it as part of your regular meal plan. Especially in fall and winter.

Slow Cooker or Pressure Cooker

One other thing to note about this recipe – I made it in the slow cooker at first, but I much prefer it in the pressure cooker.

Funny side note: I got this Crock-Pot 6Qt pressure cooker but it took me awhile to get brave enough to use the pressure cooking functions. It slow cooks as well, so that’s what I did for weeks before I finally got the onions to push the Beans/Chili button.

I can tell a difference in slow cooking vs. pressure cooking with this recipe. Slow cooked chili tastes better to me the next day after the flavors have had a chance to meld.

In the pressure cooker, this Weight Watchers chili recipe tastes great immediately! Here’s how to make it.

Easy Chili Recipe

Ingredients

  • Ground lean chicken or ground lean turkey – l lb (must be 99% free to be zero points!)
  • 2 15 oz. cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 15 oz. cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 15 oz. cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 3 10 oz. cans Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 T cumin
  • 1/2 T oregano
  • 1 T chili powder
  • Cayenne pepper (pinch, if you like hot)
  • 2 – 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 lime, quartered

Directions

Pressure Cooker or Instant Pot Instructions

1. Place the ground lean meat in your pressure cooker or Instant Pot. Use the Sauté or Brown function on your device to cook the meat.

2. Pour all of the other ingredients into the pressure cooker except the lime. Quarter your lime and squeeze the juice into the pot. Throw the rind away.

3. Select the Beans/Chili button or Meat/Stew button. Start your machine. Make sure the pressure valve is closed. It will cook for 20 – 35 minutes depending on the machine you use (mine is 20!).

4. Release the pressure from your cooker and serve.

Slow Cooker Instructions

1. Cut up the onion.

2. Spray a cooking pan with fat free cooking spray, and sauté the onion on high heat for a few minutes.

3. Add the lean ground meat to the pan and cook until the meat is brown (stirring occasionally), about 5 – 7 minutes.

4. Pour the meat (with the juices) and the onions into the slow cooker.

5. Pour all of the other ingredients into the slow cooker except the lime. Quarter your lime and squeeze the juice into the pot. Throw the rind away.

6. Cook your chili on high for 3 1/2 – 4 hours.

7. Serve this homemade chili right away!

NOTE: If you’re on the SmartPoints or myWW Green program, this chili is 7 points per serving. Any additional garnishments will have to be calculated based on the WW program you’re in; this is a Freestyle recipe.
