I’ve been noticing there’s a big Christmas trend this year in the craft-o-sphere, and it’s called gingerbread houses. People are fighting over them at HomeGoods, making them from Dollar Tree finds, and even building them for their kids out of cardboard.

Because I don’t want to be left out, I’ve got my own version for you (well, three), and it’s made out of perler beads!

If you’re in the mood for a crafty, holiday-inspired project that brings instant charm to your holiday decor, these gingerbread house perler bead patterns are just the thing.

I’ve actually got three patterns for you . . . one small flat, one small 3D, and one large 3D. There’s a lot you do with these fun versions I’ve created.

detail of large gingerbread house

Plus, they’re a lasting alternative to traditional gingerbread houses, so you can display them year after year—or even give them as adorable handmade gifts.

Kids can proudly add their own creations to the decor, whether hanging them on the tree, displaying them on the mantel, or arranging them in a mini gingerbread village scene.

With endless color possibilities and customization options, it’s easy to make each house unique. So grab your beads, pick a pattern, and get ready to add a little extra Christmas magic to your home this season!

Before I give you the patterns I do have a few tips for you. First, I just attached the perler beads to each other with Aleene’s craft glue.

gluing down christmas bead accents

Then after that, I set a pot on top to keep the beads weighted down while the glue was drying.

I don’t recommend gluing the stands in place. You can just save them in a bag for next year, and then you can store the piece flat.

If you find the house doesn’t stand up straight, you can (gently) bend it in the other direction. That worked well for me!

Small Gingerbread House

This pattern uses 205 pastel blue, 160 white, 37 bright green, 25 red, 168 brown, 16 cotton candy, and 10 light brown beads.

3D Gingerbread House

This pattern uses 215 white, 219 honey, 58 mint, 51 salmon, and 48 lagoon beads. Once you’re done, you’ll snap all the sides together and put the roof on top to form the house.

This house has accents that you glue onto the front (see the main photo of this post) as well as four stands for the bottom.

hama beads harry potter

I remember when the Harry Potter series came out. I was 20 years old and you can bet your sweet bippy I bought the books. The Philosopher’s Stone was the first, and I read it the same day I bought it.

Since the release of the first novel, six more books have been released – and a total of more than 600 million copies have been sold. That makes Harry Potter the best selling book series in history!

But that isn’t all.

Cause there are movies too. Which, I haven’t seen all of the movies – but I have seen the first four. There are eight total. This thing is a multi billion dollar franchise, my friends.

I’m guessing you’ve probably read the books and seen the movies too. And maybe you’re ready to get creative with some cute Harry Potter crafts?

I’ve got a great – no mess – idea for you. Harry Potter perler beads!

Harry Potter hama beads

This is a great way to introduce your kids to the Harry Potter series. I can’t believe it’s been 26 years since the first book, but it has – and (if you haven’t already), you can start to share the wizarding world with your children.

My niece is just starting to get into Harry Potter (she’s ten), so she and I made a bunch of patterns together (cause she also love perler beads).

I’m excited to share them with you today! There are several on my list, and they’re all free for you to try. I’ve got all the characters, symbols, house crests, and tons of other patterns you’re going to love.

Harry Potter fans are going to go crazy for these projects.

Perler beads are recommended for ages six and up, so this is a very fun craft to try with your littles. Children love perler beads (also known as hama beads, fuse beads, or melty beads). But don’t be shy – adults love them too!

Make sure to check out these notes:

  • A few of these patterns are larger than a 29 x 29 pegboard, so you’ll either need a extra large pegboard (49 x 69 tall) or to put multiple square peg boards together to form a larger “canvas.”
  • You’ll see a couple of the pattern backgrounds below aren’t white – that’s simply to give contrast so you can see where all the white beads should go. You don’t need to add the background (but you can if you want to).
  • I typically start with easier, smaller patterns and then move onto the harder ones. You’ll see several different versions of the characters; just keep scrolling!
  • The Harry Potter saga uses a lot of gold and silver just generally speaking. You can substitute them with a shade of yellow or light gray in a pinch.

mario perler beads

I believe it was Christmas of 1985 when my dad first brought home a Nintendo Entertainment System. I was 8 years old, and the way that he introduced me to the new purchase was to wake me up in the morning by shoving the R.O.B. in my face.

Don’t remember the R.O.B.? It was a little “robot” that came with the system the first few years it was out, and it could play a few games with you.

My dad didn’t even wait until Christmas morning to show me because at the time, it was so futuristic and cool that he couldn’t! And I don’t blame him. It was exciting back then.

We had an Atari because my dad always liked computers and video games. But nothing compared to that first Nintendo! Nothing. I don’t even want to know how many hours we logged on it.

super mario hama beads

As you can imagine, my brothers and I (and our father) played a lot of Mario Brothers. Hours and hours (I don’t want to know). And we had Super Mario Bros. and all those sequels. We were obsessed.

I have to say it’s still my favorite video game of all time, along with Mega Man and then Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega platform.

And because of my deep love for those cute little Italian brothers who can jump so high, I’m pleased to share this collection of Mario perler beads with you! There are over 30 patterns below that I think you’re going to love.

Both good and bad are represented with several characters, and I’ve also got some accoutrements for you. Some of the patterns are small and some are larger. That way? You’ve got some options depending on time and attention span.

Perler beads are recommended for ages six and up, so this is a very fun craft to try with kids. They love perler beads (also known as hama beads, fuse beads, or melty beads). But don’t be shy – adults love them too!

Make sure to check out these notes:

  • A few of these patterns are larger than a 29 x 29 pegboard, so you’ll either need a extra large pegboard (49 x 69 tall) or to put four square pegboards together (or two depending on how wide the pattern is).
  • When I say the small patterns below use a regular board, that means the individual patterns. For example, the first image below has six patterns. You can do any one of those individually on one square pegboard (but they might not all fit together one a pegboard).
  • Some of the backgrounds below aren’t white – that’s simply to give contrast to the pattern so you can see where all the white beads should go.

The patterns below use a regular 5.7″, 29 x 29 pegboard.
